Share a hobby you’ve picked up recently — what got you into it?

I picked up writing.

What got me into it was surviving heart failure and eventually receiving a heart transplant. Once I got back on my feet, I started realizing that I might actually have another 20 or 30 years ahead of me. I figured I better get to doing something with them.

At first, I was mostly sitting on a couch, unable to go very far or do much outside the confines of where I was living. Writing seemed like a natural antidote to surviving. It gave me somewhere to put all of it.

So that’s what I’ve been doing ever since.

Writing. Surviving. Thriving.

I’m incredibly grateful for this chapter.

It might be the best one yet.

And it’s just starting.
