Every 29 days, I come back to the hospital for an infusion of a drug called belatacept.

In the beginning, these visits scared me. I dreaded them.
Now I get to see familiar faces, sit for an hour with my coffee, and receive a drug that helps keep me going.
Around me are people in all kinds of situations—many kidney transplant recipients, some very sick, some quiet, some who never stop talking.
I mostly sit here and observe it all.
I think about how far I’ve come. And how far I can still go.
I suppose that’s this morning.
